Who we are
I’m from West Lafayette, Indiana. My parents taught my brothers and me about money using a mini-economy. I never thought I would use that experience to write a book one day!
West Lafayette was a great to grow up — I was constantly skateboarding at the university and ambling around town. I got to be pretty good at skating, entering competitions and getting a skateboard sponsor.
After college I lived in Raleigh, NC for 12 years, where I taught high school social studies and coached soccer. Now I live in Richmond, Virginia with my wonderful wife, Sarah, and our four children. I work at Virginia Commonwealth University where I direct the VCU Center for Economic Education. My job is to help K-12 students learn economics and personal finance. Check out my partners at the Virginia Council on Economic Education if you want to learn about what I do.
Richmond is a great place to live. The kids are always doing creative projects and exploring the banks of the James River. City Church of Richmond provides a wonderful community. My wife, Sarah, is an art historian by training. She designed this website and she makes awesome hand embroidery creations (madebyday.co). I still play soccer, but don’t skateboard that much anymore!
